Fees & Other Practicalities
There are two main ways a stay can be funded:
• Privately (self-funded), where you or your family pay the fees directly
• With support from Conwy County Borough Council, following a care needs and financial assessment
Some people have a combination of both. We’re very happy to talk through your situation and help you understand what options may be available to you.
If you choose to fund your care privately, fees are agreed with you in advance and confirmed in writing.
This gives you flexibility and clarity, and there is no requirement to involve the local authority unless you wish to do so. We will always explain what is included in the fee and discuss any additional optional costs openly.
Yes. If you may need support with funding, Conwy County Borough Council can carry out a care needs assessment and a financial assessment.
If you are assessed as eligible, the council may contribute towards the cost of your care at an agreed rate. Funding decisions are made by the council, but we can support you through the process and help with any information needed.
If council funding is involved, Conwy County Borough Council looks at income, savings and certain benefits to work out whether a contribution is required.
National Welsh guidance ensures people are left with a minimum personal allowance for day-to-day expenses. We understand this process can feel worrying, and we’re happy to explain any confusions and signpost you to further support.
Fees can change if care needs significantly increase or if funding arrangements change following a reassessment.
If this happens, we will always talk things through with you or your representative first, explain the reasons clearly, and give appropriate notice. There are no unexpected changes without discussion
Conwy Council’s single contact line (0300 456 1111) can provide general advice, information and support to help you understand the steps, including how to apply for a needs assessment and financial assessment.
